The Louisiana Department of Health reminds state residents to get their annual flu shot if they have not done so already. An annual flu vaccine is recommended for everyone older than six months who does not have a complicating condition, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Secretary Kathy H. Kliebert, and DHH Public Health Assistant Secretary J.T. Lane received their annual flu shots at the East Baton Rouge Parish Health Unit today. The annual flu shot event is part of the State's efforts to remind members of the public about the importance of getting a flu shot or nasal spray to protect against the flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released a report that shows Louisiana physicians are seeing more flu cases than in other parts of the United States. The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) strongly encourages Louisiana residents to receive flu vaccinations as the best protection against the flu, but also to use antiviral medications, such as Tamiflu, in the instance that the flu does occur.
