Louisiana secures emergency health plan contracts
The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has reached an agreement on emergency contracts with the five health plans that currently manage care for 1.6 million Louisiana Medicaid members. Those health plans include Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, Amerihealth Caritas Louisiana, Healthy Blue, Louisiana Healthcare Connections and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. State and federal approvals are still needed for the contracts to go into effect in January.
What does this mean for members?
The emergency contracts do not change or have any effect on a member’s Medicaid coverage or their Medicaid eligibility. Members should continue going to their current doctors and keep any appointments or procedures they have scheduled.
If members have questions about coverage or doctors, they should call their health plans’ member services hotline. Click here for health plan hotline numbers.
When is Healthy Louisiana Open Enrollment?
Open enrollment has been delayed. New dates have not yet been set.
When the enrollment period is set, members will receive a letter in the mail. The letter will tell them how to change plans, if they wish to do so, and the deadline to make that change. Members should keep their mailing addresses updated so they don’t miss this important letter. The easiest way to do this is by logging in to the Medicaid Self Service Portal at MyMedicaid.la.gov.
