Dr. Michael Saag, Director of the Center for AIDS Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will review the presentation of Long COVID syndrome and describe the proposed mechanisms that may be responsible for this debilitating disorder. He will also review the state of the art of treatment, which is very limited at this time, and highlight the research needs for the coming year in this challenging field of study.
Dr. Jeffrey Siegelman is a practicing emergency physician who became ill with COVID-19 in early August and developed long COVID, which kept him out of work through January 2021. He will share his experience as a long hauler and reflections on the impact of the illness on his personal and professional life.
