HB 551 of the 2009 Regular Session created the Seafood Safety Task Force within DHH. The bill required the task force to obtain the method in which imported seafood is inspected in Louisiana, the frequency of inspections of imported seafood, the substances for which imported seafood are currently being tested, and the results of sampling analysis of potentially harmful substances in imported seafood. The bill further required the task force to compile the results of these findings and develop seafood and safety recommendations to be reported to the House and Senate Health and Welfare Committees and the House and Senate Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development Committees.
