The Louisiana Department of Health will reopen Molluscan Shellfish Growing Area 11, located in Plaquemines Parish along the Gulf of Mexico at sunrise, Saturday, August 6, 2016.

Due to environmental conditions related to harmful toxins found in the area, the waters were closed on Friday, July 29, 2016.

Today, because water conditions are now within the standards set by the National Shellfish Sanitation Program, State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry signed the order to reopen the waters.

LDH has notified local oyster harvesters that work the affected area, as well as the Louisiana Oyster Task Force and the FDA, that the waters are now open.

The Louisiana Department of Health strives to protect and promote health statewide and to ensure access to medical, preventive and rehabilitative services for all state residents.
