The Louisiana Department of Health will reopen molluscan shellfish growing areas 26, 27 and 28, located in Vermillion and Iberia Parishes, thirty minutes before sunrise Friday, Aug. 26, 2016.

Due to environmental conditions related to flooding in the area, the waters were closed on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016.

Today, because water conditions are now within the standards set by the National Shellfish Sanitation Program, State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry signed the order to reopen the waters.

LDH has notified local oyster harvesters that work the affected areas, as well as the Louisiana Oyster Task Force and the FDA, that the waters are now open.

The Louisiana Department of Health strives to protect and promote health statewide and to ensure access to medical, preventive and rehabilitative services for all state residents.
