The Louisiana Department of Health will close New Orleans-area molluscan shellfish growing waters, Areas 1, 2 and 3, effective at sunset today, September 4, 2018. This is a precautionary closure due to the adverse weather conditions from Tropical Storm Gordon.
The affected waters include those near the Mississippi Sound and Lake Borgne. These waters will remain closed to the harvest of all molluscan shellfish until it is determined the environmental conditions are within the requirements specified by the National Shellfish Sanitation Program.
LDH has notified local oyster harvesters who work in the affected area, as well as the Louisiana Oyster Task Force and the FDA.
