Oil Cleanup Efforts Continue in Partially Closed Area

The Louisiana Department of Health announced today the partial closure of oyster harvesting Area 12. The partial closure comes in response to continued oil cleanup in portions of this oyster harvesting area and is consistent with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries closure of the same area.

LDH Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein and State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry signed the closure order, which takes effect immediately today, October 25, 2010.

In addition to today's announcement of the partial closure of Area 12, areas 8, 11 and 23 remain closed and areas 9, 10 and 21 remain partially closed.

The public is encouraged to call a toll-free hotline, 1-800-256-2775, to report the presence of oil or an oil sheen.
