2019 Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet
Elementary schools parish fitness teams competed in the State Championship Fitness Meet on Saturday, April 27 at Alexandria Senior High School (ASH). The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports has seen a significant increase in the physical fitness levels of elementary school children in the last three years from the twenty-two parishes that participated in the competition. The top two boys and girls from each parish survived competition from their schools and competed against other kids in their parish before they reach the championship.
Students perform the identical fitness tests acquired from the President's Challenge. Tests consist of: 50-yard Dash, Sit and Reach, Pull-ups, the Shuttle Run, Curl-ups (sit-ups), Standing Long Jump, and the 600-Yard Run. Instructions on how to execute each test properly is included in the Elementary Fitness Meet Guidelines packet and distributed to each parish annually. The top scores from local parish qualifiers earn the right to compete against other children from across the state. Last year's champion, Rapides Parish won a record-setting fourth consecutive championship! Congratualtions Rapides parish! See results below:
