Infection Control Assessments and Response Activities
The Louisiana HAI/AR Program is participating in a national initiative to ensure infection control readiness across the provider spectrum termed “Infection Control Assessment and Response Activities” (ICAR). This initiative was catalyzed by the 2014-2015 Ebola pandemic.
The purpose of the ICAR project is to ensure infection control infrastructure among our facilities for emerging infectious disease preparedness in light of the 2014-2015 Ebola pandemic. The activity would entail a face-to-face meeting to review the following:
• Direct observations of hand hygiene, equipment reprocessing, transmission-based precautions, and injection safety
• A summary of the meeting will be sent following the face-to-face along with any recommendations regarding specific
infection control domains
Louisiana aims to perform 23 ICAR in acute care hospitals, four in long term care facilities, two in dialysis facilities, and two in inpatient rehabilitation facilities. Participation is confidential. To get involved, contact Erica.Washington@la.gov.
