Approximately 20% of Louisiana’s workforce is employed in occupations at high risk for work-related mortality. From 2008-2021, an average of 117 people died from work-related incidents each year. The LA|FACE Program tracks workplace fatalities from traumatic injuries, performs targeted investigations, and prepares recommendations to prevent similar deaths from occurring in the future. The LA|FACE Program is part of LDH’s Occupational Health and Injury Surveillance Program, and it has been funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) since 2021.
Program Goals

Conduct surveillance of work-related fatalities to identify high-risk industries and occupations.

Conduct in-depth investigations of selected work‑related fatalities to identify causal factors.

Develop prevention recommendations and share findings with employers, workers, and partners.

- LA|FACE is not affiliated with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and is not a regulatory program.
- LA|FACE investigators do not evaluate or enforce compliance with State or Federal occupational safety and health standards and do not determine fault or blame.
