Mothers Against Drugs (MAD) is a prevention contractor that provides alternative activities for youth, leadership training, family wellness and community education. This contractor has been nationally recognized for its programming and received the 1998 Exemplary Program Award from the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention in April 1999. MAD provides the One Great River and FACE programs that are risk and protective factors based utilizing data from the 1999 and 2001 Office for Addictive Disorders Communities That Care Survey results.
One Great River: Alternative wilderness experience program promoting health and prevention of tobacco, alcohol, other drug use and health risk behaviors among youth, ages 14-17. The One Great River program serves community and youth organizations representing diverse populations in the Northwest Louisiana (Region VII). The One Great River program uses Mixed Comprehensive Prevention Approach including Universal Selective and Indicated approaches. Research-based prevention program methods are applied to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors.
