Medicaid helps low-income individuals and families get medical benefits. While the federal government sets some general rules, each state, including Louisiana, has its own requirements. In Louisiana, over a million residents receive health care coverage through Medicaid, with most being children under 19. The Louisiana Medicaid Program operates within the Louisiana Department of Health.

About Healthy Louisiana
Healthy Louisiana is how most Medicaid and LaCHIP recipients in Louisiana receive their health care. The goal is to help you take charge of your health and your family’s health.
In Healthy Louisiana, Medicaid recipients enroll in a health plan. These plans may differ in provider networks, referral policies, health management programs, and extra services. Each plan is accountable to the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH). You have the right to appeal any issues you may face, first to your Health Plan and then to the state.
With over 2 million people currently enrolled, Medicaid is here to provide the medical coverage you need.
