The goal of the OPH Laboratory is to protect the health and safety of the citizens and visitors to the State of Louisiana by providing accurate and timely laboratory data to state officials, public health programs and citizens of the state.
Information produced by the OPH Laboratory is a key component in day to day decision making as well as being critical to crisis management following natural disasters, disease outbreaks, chemical spills, and threat events. Public health programs as well as state and federal law enforcement agencies use OPH Laboratory data. These public health programs encompass Preventative Health, Environmental Health, Infectious Disease and Environmental Epidemiology, Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response, and Forensic testing for biological and chemical threats.
All Specimens for Zika Virus testing must be preapproved by the OPH Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program. Please Call (800) 256-2748 to speak to an Epidemiologist . Please do not submit specimens to the OPH Laboratory without first contacting the OPH Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program.

The OPH laboratories will never correct or repudiate a report at the request of a submitter, except in some cases when the submitter is an authorized OPH employee.
