
Long-Term Personal Care Services (LTPCS) Program
What is the LT-PCS program?
The Long-Term Personal Care Services program provides help with activities of daily living for people who qualify for assistance under the program guidelines. Activities of daily living are activities related to personal care, such as bathing/showering, dressing, getting in and out of bed or a chair, walking, eating and using the restroom.
This program does not, by itself or in combination with other Office of Aging and Adult Services (OAAS) programs, provide supports 24 hours a day.
Who qualifies for the LT-PCS program?
People who qualify for LT-PCS services must:
- Receive Medicaid benefits; AND
- Are 21 years of age or older; AND
- Qualify for Nursing Home Care; AND
- Require at least limited assistance with one Activity of Daily Living; AND
- Be able to direct their care independently or through a responsible representative; AND
Meet ONE of the following:
- Be in a nursing facility and be able to be discharged if community-based services were available; OR
- Be likely to require nursing facility admission within the next 120 days; OR
- Have a primary caregiver who has a disability or who is at least 70 years old.
What services does the LT-PCS program provide?
The LT-PCS program provides assistance with:
- Eating
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Grooming
- Toileting
- Walking or using a wheelchair
- Moving from one surface to another
- Changing positions in bed (bed mobility)
The LT-PCS program may also provide assistance with:
- Light housekeeping
- Cooking and storing meals
- Grocery Shopping
- Laundry
- Medication Reminders
- Help with scheduling medical appointments
- Arranging medical transportation
What services does the LT-PCS program NOT cover?
- Nursing care
- Medication Administration
- Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapy
- Specialized aid services
- Help that is already being given by family or others in the community or through another assistance program
- Cleaning areas of the home that the applicant does not use
- Food preparation or laundry for anyone other than the participant
- Companionship
- Sitter services
- Supervision not related to Activities of Daily Living
