Mothers Against Drugs – GGC

Guiding Good Choices is a research-based, Family Management Skills Training program that gives parents of children in grades four through eight (9 to 14 years old) the knowledge and skills needed to guide their children through early adolescence. Over the last 20 years, research has shown that positive parental involvement is an Important protective factor that increases school success and buffers children against later problems such as substance abuse, violence, and risky sexual behaviors. This program aims to: 1) strengthen and clarify family expectations for healthy behavior; 2) enhance the conditions that promote positive, pro-social bonding in the family; 3) teach social skills to parents and children that allow children to successfully meet the expectations of their family to resist tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use, and 4) promote conservative norms regarding drug use
