Criteria for Admission:
Need for detoxification.  Persons presenting for admission are intoxicated or demonstrating symptoms of withdrawal.

Program Synopsis:
Services are provided in a supported environment with aftercare planning completed during the detoxification process as well as referral to long-term treatment.  Twenty-four (24) beds are available for admissions

Services Provided During Detoxification:

• Monitoring of all client activities
• Review of vital signs on a scheduled basis
• Referral to hospital or other medical care if required
• Emergency medical transportation if needed.
• Medications for detoxification as prescribed by referral hospital
• Nutritional care program
• General health/hygiene program
• Educational program on the disease concept, relapse, STD's
• Educational program for the families of clients on the disease concept.
• Introduction to self-help groups such as AA, NA with both open and closed groups
• Introduction to Big Book studies
• Work on relapse prevention
• Introduction to treatment programs for referral
• Experimental groups
• Individual and group counseling
• Referral to appropriate long-term  treatment as available.

Organizational Structure:
The detoxification Center is a nonprofit organization [IRS status as 503c(3)] with a twenty member volunteer Board of Directors.

Social Service and Intake Counselors, working under the leadership of a Board Certified Substance Abuse Counselors, provide the majority of the direct client care.  Supportive staff including an Executive Director, Clerk Typist, Record Clerk, and Housekeeping/Transportation Workers.  Community volunteers provide significant assistance in the provision of self help and spirituality groups.

Westbound on I-10 or I-12 - Enter I-10 in downtown area.  Take the Florida Street exit (left hand turn).  Continue on Florida Street traveling East, or away from the River.  You will see a set of railroad tracks.  Continue four blocks.  Turn left onto 18th Street.  Turn immediately right into a parking lot.  Signs on the building will indicate entrances.

Eastbound on I-10 - Cross the Mississippi River bridge into Baton Rouge.  Exit to I-110 (left exit).  After exit, change one lane to the right.  Take next exit to Florida Street.  Continue on Florida Street traveling East, or away from the River.  You will cross a set of railroad tracks.  Continue four blocks.  Turn left onto 18th Street.  Turn immediately right into a parking lot.  Signs on the building will indicate entrances.

Eastbound on Florida Street from the River or Downtown - Travel East on Florida Street, under the Interstate (I-110).  You will cross a set of railroad tracks.  Continue four blocks.  Turn left onto 18th Street.  Turn immediately right into a parking lot.  Signs on the building will indicate entrances.

Westbound on Florida Boulevard - Travel West (towards the River) on Florida Boulevard.  Continue past the Airline overpass, Wooddale Boulevard, Lobdell Boulevard, Foster Drive, Acadian (BR General Medical Center will be on your left).  Continue past 22nd Street.  You will drive between the National and Magnolia cemeteries.  The next traffic light will be at 19th Street.  Continue to 18th Street.  Turn right onto 18th Street.  Turn immediately right into the parking lot.  Signs on the building will indicate entrances.

Note:  Signs on the building which are easily seen from the street from the East side.  A standing sign is on the Florida Boulevard easement with red letters "Detoxification Center".
