Hepatitis A in Louisiana

The Louisiana Office of Public Health (OPH) is investigating an an outbreak of hepatitis A virus (HAV) infections in Louisiana. This increase in cases mirrors the hepatitis A outbreaks occurring in other states, which are affecting certain risk groups.

HIV Direct Services

Direct services are provided through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act, Part B, which provides formula-based grant awards to improve the quality, availability and organization of health care and supportive services for input from individuals and families affected by HIV disease.

Services

The STD/HIV Program's (SHP) Services Unit provides a variety of patient care services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, such as primary medical care, medications, dental services, assistance with transportation, rent and utilities, child care, supplemental food items, and other needed support services.

STD/HIV Prevention

The Prevention Department of the STD/HIV/Hepatitis Program (SHHP) is primarily funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Additional funding from the state of Louisiana contributes to STD testing and treatment in parish health units.
