Services

The STD/HIV Program's (SHP) Services Unit provides a variety of patient care services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, such as primary medical care, medications, dental services, assistance with transportation, rent and utilities, child care, supplemental food items, and other needed support services.

STD/HIV Prevention

The Prevention Department of the STD/HIV/Hepatitis Program (SHHP) is primarily funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Additional funding from the state of Louisiana contributes to STD testing and treatment in parish health units.

STD/HIV/Hepatitis Program (SHHP)

The STD/HIV/Hepatitis (SHHP) coordinates a number of statewide and regional programs designed to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, and other STDs, to ensure the availability of quality medical and social services for STD/HIV/Hepatitis infected and affected individuals, and to track the impact of the epidemic in Louisiana.

Surveillance

The Louisiana Office of Public Health has supported an active surveillance program since the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and the state has had confidential HIV reporting since 1993.

Syndromic Surveillance in Louisiana

In April 2013, syndromic surveillance data became reportable according to the Sanitary Code of the State of Louisiana (LAC 51:II.105). All conditions seen at the Emergency Departments of Acute Care Hospitals are Class E reportable, whereas chief complaint text or International Classification of Disease Code (ICD 9 or 10) shall be reported to the Office of Public Health within one business day of the visit by electronic means as specified by the OPH.

Tuberculosis Control Program

Mission: To protect the health of the people of Louisiana by reducing tuberculosis-related morbidity and mortality in all areas of the state through prevention, detection, treatment, and education. Our program will provide a high level of care and services based on data and evidence-based decision making.

What Should You Expect From Your Pediatrician?
