Lafayette -- On Wednesday, March 12, the Department of Health and Hospitals’ Office of Public Health Acadian Region will offer the news media a chance to experience a simulated bioterrorism event and the response of several public agencies. 

Participants in the drill include LDH-OPH, area hospitals, area law enforcement agencies, fire responders, Offices of Emergency Preparedness and EMS workers. 

The drill will bring together participants from the seven parishes in the Acadian Region to plan and work through the response of each group to the bioterrorism event. The seven parishes include Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St Martin, St Landry and Vermilion. The drill will be held at the Heymann Performing Arts and Frem Boustany Convention Center. 

The tabletop drill will not be open to the general public. However, interested members of the news media are invited and are urged to arrive at 10:30 a.m. for filming and interviews. Those who wish to attend must R.S.V.P. before 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to Maxine Hanks, Office of Public Health, Acadian Region, (337) 262-5325.
