This week is National Influenza Vaccination Week, and to provide free flu shots to citizens, the Calcasieu Medical Reserve Corps is sponsoring flu vaccine clinics at several locations in Calcasieu Parish.

The vaccine campaign is being co-sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Health – Office of Public Health. A complete listing of days, times and locations of the flu vaccine clinics are listed below.

To receive the free shot, individuals must be 11 years of age or older and not have a severe allergy to eggs or any flu vaccine component. It is recommended that children less than 11 years of age obtain the flu shot at local health units.   There will be no fee for the vaccinations. 

Individuals with Medicare or Medicaid are asked to bring their card and a picture id. 

The Calcasieu Medical Reserve Corps was formed on May 1, 2006 by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The Corps is an effort to organize, train and strengthen the medical response to the potential threats of hurricanes, influenza pandemics, chemical releases and spills, floods and terrorism. The mission of the Corps is to establish teams of local health care professionals and support staff who can contribute their skills and expertise during times of community need in day-to-day operations as well as during times of disaster.
