• At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes, have recovered 1035 bodies. This is an increase from 1,025 recovered bodies reported on Oct. 12, 2005.

 These numbers have been reported to state officials by local coroners. A breakdown is as follows:

  • Last week, LDH reported 73 bodies had been released to families. Today, that number has been updated to 132 released bodies.

 The demographic breakdown of the deceased is as follows: African-American - 58 bodies (44% of total), Caucasian – 62 bodies (47%), Hispanic – 4 (3%), unknown – 8 (6%).

 Gender: 65 males (49%), 67 females (51%).

 Parish of Residence: Jefferson – 13 (10%), Orleans – 85 (64%), Plaquemines – 1 (1%), St. Bernard – 13 (10%), Washington – 1 (1%), unknown – 18 (14%), out of state – 1 (1%).
