2017-18 Bureau of Minority Health Access Annual Report

Minority Health Annual Report

About Us

About Community Partnerships & Health Equity

About Us

The Bureau of Minority Health Access (BMHA) is within the Office of Community Partnership & Health Equity. The BMHA works to minimize health disparities among underserved racial and ethnic populations in the state through collaboration and education.

Cultural Competence

Health inequities in our nation are well documented, and the provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) is one strategy to help eliminate health inequities. By tailoring services to an individual’s culture and language preference, health professionals can help bring about positive health outcomes for diverse populations.

Louisiana Health Profiles

National State Profiles are snapshots of Minority Health offices from around the country that were compiled by NASOMH, National Association of State Offices of Minority Health. Each office is capable of working across multiple sectors using unified approaches that encompass but not limited to the following: prevention, health promotion/education, care delivery, research and evaluation, and partnerships to specifically meet the needs of racial and ethnic minority communities, tribal organizations and nations to eliminate disparities, and ensure cultural competence in health care.

Men's Health

During Men’s Health Month in June, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services encourages men and boys to take steps toward a healthier lifestyle. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the impact of preventable illnesses such as heart disease and highlight ways to stay healthy, such as exercise and getting regular medical check-ups.

Minority Health Resources

The Bureau of Minority Health Access and Promotions has reviewed these resources and recommends them because they have relevant informative content about health disparities, minority health access and other related topics and may provide help answer questions or indicate  resources. The bureau does not specifically recommend the use of these resources or take responsibility for the information you may find within them.

National Partnership For Action Toolkit

The National Partnership for Action To End Health was developed with the mission of mobilizing and connecting individuals and organizations across the country to create a nation in which all people have a chance to reach their full health potential.
