DHH Applauds the Successful Transition of Health Care Services in Baton Rouge from LSU to the Lake

BATON ROUGE, La. - Department of Health and Hospitals Interim Secretary Kathy Kliebert today marked the successful transition of regional safety net health care services from Louisiana State University to Our Lady of the Lake hospital as operations phased down at the Earl K. Long hospital, which officially closed its doors today.

Interim Secretary Kliebert said, "Today, 27 patients who would have otherwise gone to Earl K. Long received their care at Our Lady of the Lake hospital, because of the successful transition of operations from the old facility. This shift marks the culmination of years of hard work and planning between leaders at DHH, LSU and the Lake. More importantly, it kicks off the beginning of an important new era of delivering high quality health care and medical training at a better value for Louisiana taxpayers."

"Individuals who previously relied on Earl K. Long are no longer confined to a separate tier of health care and can now access the high quality services offered by the Lake, not only through the hospital facility, but through the new 24-hours, 7-day-a-week urgent care clinic in North Baton Rouge."
