Baton Rouge, La. - - Louisiana's Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Secretary Kathy H. Kliebert, and Public Health Assistant Secretary J.T. Lane receive flu shots Wednesday at DHH's parish health unit in Baton Rouge to promote ways to fight the flu.
Dardenne, Kliebert, and Lane will have their annual flu vaccinations completed at the East Baton Rouge Parish Health Unit Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 1:00 p.m. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) established National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW), December 7-13, 2014, to highlight the importance of continuing flu vaccination through the holiday season and beyond.
Influenza activity in Louisiana is now characterized as "widespread", which is above the level seen across the country, and Louisiana's Southern neighbor states. This means that almost 5 percent of all visits to physician offices and hospitals are for influenza-like illness.
