What:

Media is invited to join Dr. Rebekah Gee, LDH secretary; Dr. Alex Billioux, LDH assistant secretary for the Office of Public Health; a Care South Clinic physician; and a patient for video, photos and interviews as the Department of Health begins its hepatitis C elimination strategy.

Why:

Louisiana has put into place an innovative payment model with Asegua Therapeutics that allows the state to provide an unrestricted amount of Asegua’s direct-acting antiviral medication, the authorized generic of Epclusa® (sofosbuvir/velpatasvir), to treat patients within Louisiana’s Medicaid and Department of Corrections populations and caps the State’s medication costs.

Because of this partnership, and beginning this week, Louisiana Medicaid beneficiaries who have hepatitis C can now access the medication they need.
