May 18, 2007 DRINKING WATER HEALTH ADVISORY - Belle Chasse Water System

- The Belle Chasse Water System has experienced problems with our water treatment plant.

Because of these problems, the water produced by our water treatment plant is of questionable quality. Our source water comes from the Mississippi River and this source water may have contained undesirable compounds that our treatment processes did not completely remove. Although these compounds should not pose short-term health risks, we are issuing this advisory to be thoroughly cautious. The most noticeable problem with the water may be strong taste and odor. The water system is currently undertaking extensive flushing of our distribution system which should eventually eliminate the contamination.

Therefore, as a precaution, Belle Chasse Water System is issuing a HEALTH ADVISORY effective immediately.  This HEALTH ADVISORY is to remain in effect until rescinded by the Belle Chase Water System.

HEALTH ADVISORY

It is recommended that all consumers refrain from drinking, brushing teeth, extended contact with the skin during washing, bathing or showering, or food preparation with water produced by the Belle Chasse Water System.

The Belle Chasse Water System will rescind this HEALTH ADVISORY upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health - Office of Public Health that our water treatment plant and water system no longer contain significant amounts of compounds of concern.

For additional information please telephone the Belle Chasse Water System at 504-392-4177.
