Working in conjunction with staff from the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board, state health officials have removed a “boil water” advisory for one of the last areas of New Orleans that had remained under such as declaration. Boil advisories were issued following Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent of loss of water pressure throughout New Orleans.

Today, officials announced the lifting of the boil advisory for that area of the Lower Ninth Ward of Orleans Parish east of the Industrial Canal extending to the St. Bernard Parish line, and from North Derbigny Street south to the Mississippi River. This area is included in zip code 70117.

The remaining area in the Lower Ninth Ward extending from the Industrial Canal to the St. Bernard Parish line and from North Derbigny Street north to Florida Avenue remains under an advisory at this time. The area still covered is also within zip code 70117 east of the Industrial Canal.

Citizens in the area still under the advisory are reminded not to drink, make ice from, brush teeth, prepare or rinse food with tap water unless it has been properly disinfected until further notice.
