Louisiana Department of Health Interim Secretary Tony Keck issued the following statement on the death of long-time State Pharmacist Phil McCrory, who passed away at his home Wednesday night after a battle with cancer. McCrory was the first pharmacist to be hired by the Louisiana Office of Public Health (OPH) and served as the Director of OPH Pharmacy for 34 years until his retirement Aug. 13.
"Our hearts go out to Phil’s family. He was a champion of public health and a devoted public servant. He is responsible for many of the state pharmacy programs that have benefited Louisiana residents for years and continue today," Interim Secretary Keck said. "He implemented the state’s Strategic National Stockpile program and led this operation during our response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Phil’s LDH family certainly mourns his passing, and we are keeping him and his loved ones in our thoughts and prayers."
