If the USDA, who administers the SNAP program, is prepared and ready to move money into states’ accounts, we will use federal dollars to fund SNAP recipients’ accounts. If they are not ready, LDH will proceed with our state-funded program to provide food assistance to the elderly, the disabled, and households with children through their existing EBT cards.

BATON ROUGE, -
Baton Rouge – In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Department of Health and Hospitals—Office of Public Health’s Laboratory in New Orleans is closed indefinitely. Until further notice, all newborn screening (PKU) specimens should be sent to the OPH Laboratory in Shreveport.
The address is: Shreveport Regional Laboratory, P. O. Box 3561, Shreveport, LA 71133.
The Office of Public Health is making arrangements to forward the specimens to another state public health laboratory for analysis. Details will be announced when arrangements are finalized.
