  Louisiana One of Nine States to Receive Medicaid Performance Bonus for Improving Coverage for Kids

  Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Alan Levine today announced that Louisiana’s Medicaid program received a $1.5 million performance bonus from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the program’s significant progress in enrolling children and improving access to health coverage for children through Medicaid and LaCHIP, or the Louisiana Children’s Health Insurance Program.

  Louisiana Medicaid Recognized as a National Best Practice for Administrative Efficiency

  Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Alan Levine today announced that the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has recognized Louisiana’s Medicaid program as a national best practice for its efforts to simplify and streamline the state’s Medicaid eligibility processes. Louisiana’s Medicaid program, which includes the Louisiana Children’s Health Insurance Program (LaCHIP), also shows significantly lower error rates overall than the national average, according to reports released by CMS.

  DHH Announces New Effort to Combat Medicaid Fraud

  The Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) today announced a first-ever, aggressive fraud initiative designed to identify fraudulent providers of in-home services for people in Medicaid. This effort is part of a partnership with Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell. DHH will also work with the appropriate federal authorities.

  Allen Parish Medicaid Office to close with no layoffs

  BATON ROUGE—The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals will close its Medicaid Office in Allen Parish when the lease expires in July 2009. All Medicaid staff currently at the office will be placed in local public agencies or use a telecommuting program to process applications. The office closure is expected to have little impact on Medicaid applicants and enrollees in the area, as the overwhelming majority of interaction with the public is by phone, by mail, or through outreach and out stationing.

As working families struggle to provide more with less for their families, including health care coverage, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is continuing its outreach efforts this week to help thousands in the state gain access to affordable health care.

  BATON ROUGE –The Louisiana Children’s Health Insurance Program is joining the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers Saturday, March 7, to host a National Day of Service with outreach and enrollment events planned across the state.

  DHH Announces Creation of Medicaid Reform Committee

  Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Secretary Alan Levine announced today the appointment of a Medicaid Reform Committee that will help guide the agency in creating a reformed, patient-centered Medicaid system in the state of Louisiana. The Health Care Reform Act of 2007 (SB1) calls on DHH to implement a medical home system of care that will incorporate the use of health information technology and quality measures to create a safe, patient centered, quality driven, sustainable health care system for Medicaid recipients and low-income uninsured citizens. The Medicaid Reform Committee will counsel the agency as it moves to implement this patient-centered model of care, called “Louisiana Health First.”

  Governor Bobby Jindal Announces LDH Exceeded Goals by Covering 11,000 More Uninsured Louisiana Children Since January

  At an event with the Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana in Monroe today, Governor Bobby Jindal was joined by Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Secretary Alan Levine to announce that DHH has surpassed its enrollment goals for the year and enrolled an additional 11,000 Louisiana children from lower-income and working families into health insurance programs since January.

  Medicaid Prescriptions Go High-Tech

  Baton Rouge – A new electronic system for the prescribing of medications being launched in April will provide Medicaid physicians in Louisiana access to cutting-edge technology to provide safe an efficient prescribing services as well as help drive down medication costs. Perhaps most importantly, this new program will increase the quality of the Medicaid prescription drug program.
