Baton Rouge --- Staff from the Department of Health and Hospitals, along with representatives from other agencies and advocacy groups, will be at locations throughout the state to promote programs already in place to help uninsured children, pregnant women, and seniors in need of assistance paying their Medicare premiums. This outreach is part of Cover The Uninsured Week, from May 10-16.
The week will be filled with outreach activities to enroll more of these citizens, many of whom are eligible for state-funded health insurance and do not know it, into the various Medicaid programs.
LDH Secretary Dr. Fred Cerise and Chip Kahn, president of the Federation of American Hospitals, will officially kick off Cover the Uninsured Week Monday morning in New Orleans, with a 10 a.m. press conference at Gallier Hall. Activities will take place in all parts of the state throughout the rest of the week. A calendar of events is listed below.
