- At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes, have recovered 1,056 bodies. This is an increase from 1,053 recovered bodies reported on Oct. 19, 2005.
- These numbers have been reported to state officials by local coroners. A breakdown is as follows:
863 – Total number of bodies examined at St. Gabriel morgue facility:
158 – Released to Families
705 – Remain at the morgue

- Last week, LDH reported 132 bodies had been released to families. Today, that number has been updated to 158 released bodies.
- The demographic breakdown of these 158 deceased victims is as follows:
- Race: African-American - 66 bodies (44% of total), Caucasian – 75 bodies (50%), Hispanic – 5 (3%), unknown – 4 (3%).
- Gender: 72 males (48%), 78 females (52%).
- Parish Where Recovered: Jefferson – 14 (9%), Orleans – 98 (66%), Plaquemines – 1 (1%), St. Bernard – 18 (11%), Washington – 1 (1%), unknown – 17 (11%), out of state – 1 (1%).
- The names of eight deceased victims that previously were issued have been removed from the list of Hurricane Katrina deceased victims because further examination has determined their deaths were not storm related.
