- At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes, have recovered 988 bodies. This is an increase from 976 recovered bodies on Oct. 5, 2005.
- These numbers have been reported to state officials by local coroners. A breakdown is as follows:
795 are at the morgue in St. Gabriel

- A demographic breakdown of bodies in the St. Gabriel morgue is as follows: African-America – 40.8%, Caucasian – 35.3%, Hispanic – 0.4%, Asian/Pacific – 0.1%, Other – 0.5%, missing information – 22.8%.
- In most cases(62%), an age has not yet been determined, but the following ages are known: 0-5 – 1.2%, 16-20 – 0.13%, 21-30 – 0.54%, 31-40 – 1.34%, 41-50 – 4.69%, 51-60 – 6.16%, 61-75 – 9.91%, 75+ - 14.32%
