Today, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) confirmed that an 87-year-old Baton Rouge area woman who died earlier this month was infected with the same strain of listeria found in the recalled cantaloupes produced by Jensen Farms in Colorado. This is the second Louisiana death linked to this strain of listeria. Last week, the DHH lab linked the death of an 81-year-old Shreveport area woman.
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) is investigating the death of an 81-year-old woman who died in a Shreveport hospital and had listeria. DHH epidemiologists have determined the listeria she had is the same strain that was found in the recalled cantaloupes produced by Jensen Farms in Colorado. Cantaloupe was found in the woman's refrigerator, but her relatives have told epidemiologists they are unsure whether she had eaten it.

For the second consecutive year, Louisiana scored a perfect 100 on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) evaluation of the state's public health emergency preparedness and response capabilities. Louisiana and seven other states scored 100 two years in a row. Louisiana's public health laboratories also received exemplary marks. The CDC's "Public Health Preparedness: 2011 State-by-State Update on Laboratory Capabilities and Response Readiness Planning" report released today evaluates the state over a three-year period, from 2007-2010.

A proposed settlement has been reached in the above-referenced federal Multi-District Litigation lawsuit against Interior/Exterior Building Supply, LP (“InEx”) and other named defendants. The proposed settlement affects all persons or entities with possible claims (against the named defendants) related to Chinese Drywall sold, marketed, or distributed by InEx.
