The prioritization of Louisiana‟s State planning activities within this block grant application is guided by the annual Department of Health and Hospitals Business Plan and the transformational goals identified by the Office of Behavioral Health (OBH). Many of the identified service gaps and needs are addressed by the dramatic systems change currently underway in Louisiana, whereby OBH becomes a purchaser of services through a Statewide Managed Care network rather than a provider.

The Department of Health and Hospitals is hosting seven weekly webinars discussing the Coordinated System of Care (CSoC) program. The webinars feature moderated discussion of CSoC operations, trainings, and a discussion of the services that will be provided to children and adults through CSoC. The webinars also feature local and national speakers giving presentations on provider issues, Medicaid requirements and other topics related to CSoC. CSoC is a collaborative between DHH, the Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Education and the Office of Juvenile Justice.

UPDATE: On May 2, 2011, DHH Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein signed an order extending the Emergency Rule that adds "bath salts" the to Controlled Dangers Substances schedule, making it illegal to possess, manufacture or distribute them in Louisiana.

Today, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) joined Louisiana State Executive Director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Donna Tate, representatives from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and other safety officials at the Louisiana State Capitol for a "State Orange Ribbon Rally" to announce officials’ commitment to the prevention of underage drinking.

Today the Department of Health and Hospitals and the Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling kicked off Problem Gambling Awareness Week in Shreveport with an open house at the Center of Recovery (CORE), one of the nation's premier residential treatment facilities for problem gamblers.
