  Louisiana Part of Nationwide Recall of Prepackaged Sandwiches

  Landshire of St. Louis, MO is expanding its October 20 recall to include more than 17,000 cases of its Nike All-American and Nike Super Poor Boy sandwiches. The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has identified that this product has been distributed in Louisiana. DHH sanitarians are working closely with the manufacturer to ensure the recalled product is removed from Louisiana store shelves, and sate public health officials are warning residents not to consume the recalled sandwiches. Landshire issued the voluntary recall after two samples from the company’s Caseyville, Il. plant tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

  DHH Confirms Two New Cases of West Nile Virus

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has confirmed two new human cases of West Nile Virus, bringing this year's total to 12. This is less than half of 2009's 29 total cases of West Nile virus, Louisiana's lowest year on record. Both new cases are from St. Tammany Parish. These cases are reported in DHH's weekly Louisiana Arbovirus Surveillance Summary, which can be found in the Surveillance Reports Section of the DHH website.

  The holiday season is supposed to be a joyous time, but a crook can ruin it for you. It's also a time to consider personal safety when out doing holiday shopping. The Lafayette and Acadia Parish Sheriff's Departments are teaming up with the Acadiana Medical Reserve Corps and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals to offer two separate courses to help residents protect themselves this holiday season.

  Baton Rouge's Listeria Death Linked to Recalled Cantaloupe

  Today, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) confirmed that an 87-year-old Baton Rouge area woman who died earlier this month was infected with the same strain of listeria found in the recalled cantaloupes produced by Jensen Farms in Colorado. This is the second Louisiana death linked to this strain of listeria. Last week, the DHH lab linked the death of an 81-year-old Shreveport area woman.

  DHH Confirms Second Louisiana Death Linked to Listeria

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) is investigating the death of an 81-year-old woman who died in a Shreveport hospital and had listeria. DHH epidemiologists have determined the listeria she had is the same strain that was found in the recalled cantaloupes produced by Jensen Farms in Colorado. Cantaloupe was found in the woman's refrigerator, but her relatives have told epidemiologists they are unsure whether she had eaten it.
