  Beach Water Quality Advisories Issued For Hackberry, Martin, Rutherford and Three Sections of Holly Beach

  Swimming advisories have been issued for the beach water at Hackberry, Rutherford and Martin beaches, as well as three sections of Holly Beach in Cameron Parish. These advisories are being issued because water samples collected at these locations showed high levels of enteric bacteria, which come from the intestinal tracts of humans and animals. Please note that this is NOT a closure of the beach or facilities at these locations. All areas remain open for boating and land-based activities.

  Health Department Urges Fireworks Safety

  Every year, thousands of children are admitted to emergency rooms with fireworks injuries, and more of these injuries occur during Fourth of July festivities than any other holiday. The most common fireworks injuries result from sparklers, often considered safe for children, as well as firecrackers and bottle rockets.

  Health Officials Urge Precautions Against West Nile

  The Department of Health and Hospitals urges people to step up their precautions against mosquito bites, such as wearing repellant when outdoors and emptying standing water, to avoid contracting West Nile virus.

  Beach Water Quality Advisories Lifted For Cameron, Jefferson and Lafourche Parishes

  The swim advisories issued for the water at Constance, Little Florida, Martin, and three sections of Holly Beach in Cameron Parish: and one section of Fourchon Beach in Lafourche Parish; and one section of Grand Isle State Park beach in Jefferson Parish have been lifted. Swim advisories that remained in effect are for two sections of Holly Beach in Cameron Parish.

  On Wednesday, July 6, 2005, community leaders will join together to discuss primary and preventive health care in Winn Parish. The meeting will be held at noon at the Louisiana Political Museum, located at 499 East Main St. in Winnfield, La.

  Shreveport Plays Host to Regional LaCHIP Conference

  Baton Rouge --- Northwest Louisiana has more children who qualify for free health insurance but are not enrolled than any other part of the state. For this reason, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals’ is hosting the Northwest Louisiana Children’s Health Insurance Program (LaCHIP) conference in Shreveport next Tuesday.

  Swimming advisories have been issued for the beach water at Martin Beach in Cameron Parish; one section of Fourchon Beach and one section of Grand Isle State Park beach in Lafourche Parish; and at Martin Beach and two sections of Holly Beach in Cameron Parish. All advisories all remain in effect until samples show water bacteria levels are acceptably lowered. Swim advisories remain in effect for Constance, Little Florida and three sections of Holly Beach in Cameron Parish.

  From a proposal to limit junk food in school vending machines to a plan to use local health care funds to improve primary care to restructuring long term care and reducing the cost of prescription drugs, every bill in Gov. Blanco’s Health Care Reform package received legislative approval.

  Beach Water Quality Advisories Lifted At Martin Beach and two sections of Holly Beach in Cameron Parish

  The swim advisories issued for the water at Martin Beach and two sections of Holly Beach has been lifted. The advisories were issued because high levels of potentially unsafe bacteria were found in the water at this location. However, water samples tested during the past seven days show the water is now acceptable for swimming.

  National HIV Testing Day is June 27

  June 27 is National HIV Testing Day, which is dedicated to encouraging people to find out their HIV status and helping those who are positive access treatment and reduce their risk of transmitting the virus to others. National HIV Testing Day also prevents new HIV infections by increasing education and awareness about the virus, and offering access to voluntary counseling and testing services.

  Swimming advisories have been issued for the beach water at Little Florida, Martin and three sections of Holly Beach in Cameron Parish. These locations join the list of swim advisories issued earlier for Constance, Gulf Breeze, Hackberry, Rutherford and two other sections of Holly Beach, all in Cameron Parish. These advisories all remain in effect until samples show water bacteria levels are acceptably lowered.
