The Department of Health announced the latest figures Friday, saying 2,500 people per day on average have signed up for coverage since enrollment opened in June. Health Secretary Rebekah Gee praised the numbers saying those families “can sleep more soundly at night knowing their loved ones have coverage.”

This is the eighth case of travel-associated Zika confirmed in a Louisiana resident. There have been no confirmed cases of local transmission within Louisiana or in the rest of the 50 states.
The Department of Health announced today it is suspending all services at the East Baton Rouge Parish Health Unit on Florida Blvd. Earlier this week, the Department of Health received a report that detailed the presence of mold throughout the building. Mold is known to cause adverse health effects to people with compromised immune systems.
“Expanding Medicaid in Louisiana was the easiest decision I’ve made since taking office in January, and I meet people from all walks of lifewho will be positively impacted by expansion,” said Gov. Edwards.
