In this Q & A blog series, our regional public health leaders will be answering the same questions, and together they will paint a statewide perspective of the COVID-19 pandemic and the response in their communities. Dr. Martha Whyte is the Regional Medical Director for Region 7, which includes the parishes of Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine and Webster.
"In our region, it remains a challenge to really understand the current situation - that the virus is still around and it is still dangerous," Dr. Whyte writes about northwestern Louisiana. "How do we get people to act on this information and do the right thing when they are so anxious to get out of the house and resume their normal activities?"
The first 500 people who show up for testing Tuesday, July 14 at LSU's Alex Box Stadium's Geaux Get Tested site will receive a coupon for a McDonald's Value Meal. Valluzzo Companies, owner of more than 40 McDonald's locations in Baton Rouge, is offering the meal deal to help encourage people to get tested for COVID-19.
Throughout this week, mobile testing sites in southwest Louisiana have extended their hours and will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. from Monday, July 13 to Friday, July 17. These sites will also be using the laboratory eTrueNorth to conduct the tests and provide results.
Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced a mandatory mask requirement for Louisiana and ordered bars in the state closed to on-premises consumption, as the state experiences increasing spread of COVID-19. The Governor also limited indoor social gatherings like wedding receptions, class reunions and parties to 50 total people. With these additional restrictions, Louisiana remains in Phase Two of the Roadmap for a Resilient Louisiana.

"It's hard to even go into the grocery store without seeing people I know who have been impacted by COVID in some way. Everyone has had a different challenge, but COVID has challenged everyone in some different way," Dr. Cavanaugh writes about her region.

Medical Monitoring Stations operated by Hospitals to provide treatment, medical services, assistance with activities of daily living, and related services to eligible COVID-19 positive individuals who are referred and/or approved for such services by the Louisiana Department of Health.
This Emergency Order shall continue the previously issued Notice #2020-COVID-19-ALL-020, and shall remain in effect from 11:59 p.m. on July 5, 2020, until further notice from the State Health Officer.
