Gov. Edwards: Louisiana will Move to Phase One Statewide on May 15, COVID-19 Stay at Home Order will be Lifted for Louisianans
Louisiana will move to Phase One under the White House COVID-19 guidance this Friday, May 15, which removes the Stay at Home order for Louisianans and allows additional businesses to open under strict occupancy, protection and social distancing guidelines, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Monday. High risk individuals should continue to stay at home, except for essential activities, like getting food or medical care.

State of Louisiana Will Hire Hundreds of Louisianans as Contact Tracers to Fight the Spread of COVID-19
Today, Governor John Bel Edwards and the Louisiana Department of Health outlined a plan for COVID-19 testing and tracking that would hire as many as 700 Louisianans to serve as, "contact tracers" interviewing and advising people who have tested positive to determine who in their lives could also be at risk.

While Louisiana has seen positive, improving trends statewide in terms of new case growth and new hospitalizations, in several regions across the state, new cases and hospitalizations continue to increase or to remain at an elevated plateau. The White House criteria calls for declining COVID-19-like illnesses, declining case numbers and declining hospitalizations.

The pandemic influenza and Novel Viral Respiratory Plan disease threat has the potential to rapidly cause illness in a very large number of people, which could easily overwhelm health systems. A pandemic outbreak could jeopardize essential community services by causing high levels of absenteeism in critical positions in every workforce. Basic services, such as public health, healthcare, law enforcement, fire, emergency response, communications, transportation, and utilities could be disrupted during an influenza pandemic. The pandemic, unlike many other emergency events, could last for several weeks or months with possible waves of illness. This disease threat could occur simultaneously across the United States presenting significant resource challenges including personnel, supplies, and equipment.
