The purpose of this RFP is to solicit proposals from qualified proposers to enable Louisiana’s WIC Program to continue providing breastfeeding peer counseling while utilizing the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) model for successful peer counseling and state established protocols/policies, which will result in an increase in breastfeeding initiation and duration rates.

Today, Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Kathy Kliebert announced that the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved a two-year renewal of federal authority to operate a demonstration program focused on advancing and sustaining access to health care services in the New Orleans area. The program, called the Greater New Orleans Community Health Connection (GNOCHC), is a Medicaid demonstration waiver that provides primary care and behavioral health care services to more than 54,000 individuals in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes.
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) will host a free symposium on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Louisiana on Dec. 9, 2014. The symposium, which is open to parents, teachers, health care professionals and other stakeholders, will address the frequency of diagnosis, medication rates, and proper use of ADHD medications.
Pursuant to Act 13 of the 2012 Regular Session, the operation of the Adult Protective Services (APS) program for persons age 60 and older, commonly referred to as Elderly Protective Services (EPS), was transferred to the Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Aging and Adult Services. Since July 1, 2012, the Office of Aging and Adult Services (OAAS) was charged with operating an adult protective services program under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Health and Hospitals and the Governor’s Office Community Programs. This proposed Rule is being promulgated to adopt the changes reflected in the Memorandum of Understanding.
During the 2010 Regular Session, the Louisiana Legislature authorized the transfer of the State Personal Assistance Services Program and its functions to the Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Aging and Adult Services (R.S. 46.2116.2). This proposed Rule is being promulgated to adopt the changes created by the new legislation. Accordingly, the provisions of LAC 67:VII.1101-29 will be repealed upon final promulgation of this rule.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) announced today wider implementation of a document that makes it simpler for individuals to discuss and plan their own end-of-life care decisions with their physician. The form, called the Louisiana Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment or LaPOST, is a voluntary document that allows individuals to state their preferences for the kinds of care they would like to receive when facing a serious, advanced illness that may eventually limit their ability to speak or direct their own care. LaPOST encourages important communication between doctors and patients, enables patients to make informed decisions, and helps makes these decisions travel easily across care settings.
Gov. Bobby Jindal and officials with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH), and Louisiana State Police (LSP) announced the ban of a new synthetic marijuana compound called "MAB-CHMINACA" today. The designer drug, sold under names such as Mojo and Spice, has been associated with more than 125 residents seeking treatment at Baton Rouge-area hospitals since Oct. 3. The ban adds the full chemical compound N-(1-amino-3,3-dimethyl-1-oxobutan-2-yl)-1-(cyclohexylmethyl)-1H-indazole-3-carboxamide to the list of Schedule 1 Controlled Dangerous Substances.
The emergency rule makes changes to LAC 51:XII.Chapters 3, 9, 11 and 15 regarding the need to increase the minimum disinfectant residual levels and measurements required to be maintained and taken by public water systems. Among other items addressed, the rule clarifies that daily residual measurements are required at the point of maximum residence time in the distribution system and records of chlorine residual measurements taken in the distribution system, besides from the treatment plant(s) itself, shall be recorded and kept by the public water system for a minimum of 10 years. This necessity comes in light of scientific data and recommendation from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) relative to the control of the amoeba parasite which has, thus far, been found in four public water systems within Louisiana.
