New Orleans and Central Louisiana Regions Earn Top Marks for Public Health Disaster Preparedness
Baton Rouge–The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) has awarded the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Office of Public Health Region 1 (Greater New Orleans Area) and Region 6 (Central Louisiana) with Project Public Health Ready recognition, honoring their preparedness to respond in a public health emergency.

In 2012, the country experienced increased West Nile activity compared to recent years, and Louisiana was no exception, recording the highest number of cases in a decade.

Health Department Announces Plans to Launch Innovative Model for Medicaid Hospice Program
Today, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein announced plans to reform the Medicaid Hospice Program, with a focus on providing services in the community. The department has secured bridge funding from existing grants to continue the current hospice program, which was set to end on Feb. 1, until the reformed program can be implemented later this spring. Previous Administration decisions regarding the Medicaid budget will still remain intact. The savings will still be realized from the original reduction, with Hospice services continuing through this existing funding stream.

State Health Officials Announce Public-Private Partnership Agreement in Development for Walter O. Moss Regional Medical Center in Lake Charles

Greenstein and LSU System Executive Vice President for Health Care and Medical Education Redesign Dr. Frank Opelka announced a public-private partnership agreement is under way for Walter O. Moss Regional Medical Center with Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and its partner, West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital.

RFP for Medicaid Eligibility Data System Independent Verification and Validation Services
The purpose of this RFP is to solicit proposals from qualified and experienced proposers that provide Independent Verification & Validation (IV & V) services for enterprise Medicaid Eligibility System Replacement projects. The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals seeks to obtain an IV & V Contractor to perform IV & V services for the Design, Development and Implementation (DDI) of a replacement MEDS. The MEDS IT Architecture Upgrade Project DDI is intended to replace the entire current MEDS, including its NiAS (Notices), and Resources sub-systems, with a state-of-the-art, HIPAA compliant, rules-driven, on-line, real-time, web-based MEDS that is versatile in its architecture, structure, and code to support the evolving business needs of Louisiana’s Medicaid program. The IV & V Contractor will verify the DHH chosen solution meets business and technical requirements in order to obtain CMS Certification for the chosen MEDS Replacement.

Health Department Issues Request for Proposals for Louisiana Medicaid Dental Benefit Program
In June, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals announced plans to implement coordinated care for Medicaid dental benefits. After months of dialogue with dental stakeholders about how best to coordinate this aspect of Medicaid recipients’ care, DHH has finalized its dental reform concept, which contains many improvements based on this valuable feedback, and issued a Request for Proposals last week for the Medicaid Dental Benefit Program.
