The Department of Health and Hospitals has received additional reports from other states about Louisiana residents who died following Hurricane Katrina. The latest revised reports show 480 total out-of-state-deaths. This is an increase of 281* deaths since DHH made its last report in February 2006.

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused extensive damage and limited accessibility to the majority of beaches throughout coastal Louisiana, including many of the 13 locations in the Louisiana Beach Monitoring Program.
