Naloxone Availability
NARCAN®, a naloxone nasal spray, is now available over the counter without a prescription. Other naloxone products are available to you without a prescription at your local pharmacy, per Louisiana's standing order. If you are on Medicaid, you can get naloxone for free or low cost at your local pharmacy. Naloxone coverage varies by insurance carrier.
The Office of Behavioral Health and Office of Public Health provide naloxone and other harm reduction materials at no cost to various community organizations for distribution to the public. Visit LDH's Harm Reduction Distribution Hub to learn more or see a list of distribution sites.
