Clifton Choctaw Emergency Preparedness Meetings and Trainings

CCERN has moved forward with training dates and times for April. Training for March 6th 2023 was completed. Tribal members received material regarding Flooding in our area.

Copies of "Be Prepared for Flooding": FEMA P- 2143/ November 2020 were distributed for members in attendance during the March 6th, 2023 training.

Discussions were raised regarding the involvement of elected officials. Members questioned flooding at both ends of our Community road (Clifton Road) as well as a large portion of the road not being paved. Moving forward CCERN will make contact with individuals in regards to the issues with Clifton Road.

Members who attended the training were reminded to make contact with elder and homebound members.

Social media flyers are being prepared for the April 1st , 2023  training.

Times and dates for one-on-one with Tribal leaders has been distributed, at this time, Chief Brian Neal and Vice Chairman Audrey Clifton will be available at least once a week to meet and speak with members at the tribal center, as well as meet with elder and homebound at their residence.

Training for April 1st , 2023 will be exposure to Extreme Heat. This training topic will be used again prior to the summer months in our area.

Successes

CCERN found success with meeting with tribal members and establishing structure within planning each training.

Training for April 1st , 2023 will include an Easter brunch for all Tribal members, this event will begin at 10 a.m. with a Easter egg hunt to follow for kids. During the event literature will be distributed in regards to exposure to Extreme Heat. Time will be allotted during the event to discuss progress within the program and open to questions and concerns involving Emergency Preparedness training.

Folders to show each months trainings have been made and will be kept on file to record progress.

With this being our first year using this program, Tribal leaders feel this will encourage members to be more prepared in the event of an emergency.

A partnership with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office and the Flatwoods Volunteer Fire Department will be crucial with moving in a positive direction for a Tribes program.

Program Challenges

Consistent community involvement will always be a challenge. To combat this issue will be look for different avenues to encourage all age groups to stay involved.

Partnerships with other agencies comes with their own hurdles, to transition smoothly CCERN will work diligently to form good working relationships with possible partners.

One topic of concern will be our elderly being exploited during a major natural disaster. Future training will be implemented to reduce this risk.

Literature involving training has shown a weakness on our programs IT side, a larger more efficient printer will be needed. CCERN will begin looking for a more efficient printer to handle our needs.
