The Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health’s Bureau of Family Health (BFH), coordinates the Child Death Review (CDR) Program. As mandated by Louisiana Revised Statute 40:2019, CDRs are conducted for unexpected deaths of children under 15 years of age. State and local panels meet to review child deaths, identify risk factors, and provide recommendations for preventive action. The Louisiana CDR Program is primarily funded through the Federal Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) Case Registry grant.

Louisiana Birth Defects Monitoring Network, SFY 2022
The Louisiana Birth Defects Monitoring Network (LBDMN) within the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), Office of Public Health (OPH), Bureau of Family Health (BFH) is responsible for surveillance of birth defects in Louisiana children. Mandated in 2004, it was the intent of the legislature to “establish a system to collect, analyze, and disseminate data regarding birth defects in the state and to provide information to families of children born with birth defects regarding services available in their community and the development of appropriate prevention programs” (Louisiana Revised Statute (R.S.) 40:31.43 and Louisiana Administrative Code LAC Title 48, Part V, Subpart 55, Chapters 161 & 163 et al).

Ice manufacturing is regulated by the Food and Drug Unit under the auspices of Chapter 13 of Part VI of Title 51 of the Louisiana Administrative Code.

Food Storage and Distribution
Food storage and distribution facilities are also regulated by the Food and Drug Unit. A permitted food manufacturer usually has a designated warehouse facility attached to or otherwise integrated with the manufacturing operation; these facilities do not require a separate Permit to Operate. However, standalone snack-vending warehouses, multiple-foods warehouses, and other kinds of food distribution facilities do require a "W"-class permit from our office.
