October 10, 2019 State Health Department schedules teen health clinic day in Lake Charles area
Baton Rouge, Louisiana, - The Louisiana Department of Health is holding a health clinic day for teenagers ages 13 to 19 at the Calcasieu Parish Health Unit, 3236 Kirkman St. in Lake Charles, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2019.
The following services are provided for free to those with a current student ID, including:
- Birth control, including IUDs and implants
- Breast exams
- Family planning and reproductive health counseling
- Pap smears
- Physical exams for men and women
- Pregnancy testing
- Rapid HIV testing
- Referrals for sterilization for men
- STD testing and treatment
- Well-woman check-ups
In addition to the services above, an educational session with the health unit’s nursing staff will be provided to teach the teens about STIs, birth control methods available at the health unit, demonstrations on correct use of those methods, and the female and male anatomies. Following the presentation, all of the attendees will be given a short time to speak privately with a nurse practitioner about any questions they may have, testing and physical exams, if needed.
