“Many Louisiana communities have water systems with aging infrastructure as well as older homes. Both situations make it more likely to find lead in water due to old plumbing. When we designed this program, we fully expected to find some instance of elevated lead because we purposefully selected schools that had older pipes and plumbing. These results are extremely encouraging.”

The Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health awarded an $800,000 loan to the Southeast Waterworks District No. 2 of Vermilion Parish through the State’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund. The low-interest subsidized loan will help improve the District’s Water System.

The Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health awarded an $8 million loan to the Baton Rouge Water Company through the State’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund.  The low-interest subsidized loan will help improve the Baton Rouge Water System.

The Louisiana Department of Health has awarded a $2.31 million loan to the DeSoto Parish Waterworks District No. 1. The loan is through the State’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund, and will help the District improve its drinking water system.

Routine drinking water testing by the Louisiana Department of Health has confirmed the presence of Naegleria fowleri, an ameba that occurs naturally in freshwater, in Ouachita Parish’s North Monroe Water System and Terrebonne Parish’s Schriever Water System.

The Department of Health has awarded a $13 million loan to St. Bernard Waterworks. The loan is through the State’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund, and will help the water system improve its drinking water quality.
