  Simple Steps Can Help Prevent the Spread of Enterovirus D68

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) confirmed two cases of the Enterovirus D68 in the Capital Area today. Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) is one of many enteroviruses that are very common in the United States and typically flare up in the fall months. Since children are the most susceptible to contracting EV-D68, DHH is encouraging parents to take simple steps to help prevent the spread of EV-D68, such as encouraging children to wash their hands, cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, and to avoid sharing food or drink with people who are sick.

  This week, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) confirmed 12 new cases of West Nile virus, of which three were neuroinvasive disease infections, bringing this year's total to 92 reported infections.

  Health Officials Confirm Two New West Nile Virus Deaths

  This Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) is urging everyone to Fight the Bite, and protect yourself from mosquito-borne diseases. This comes as DHH confirms two new West Nile virus deaths this week, bringing this year's total to four West Nile virus deaths. The deaths are in Northwest Louisiana and the Capital Area Region. DHH is also reporting 19 new West Nile virus infections, of which six were neuroinvasive disease cases, bringing this year's total to 80 reported infections.

  Health Officials Confirm Nine New West Nile Virus Cases this Week; 61 Total Cases this Year

  This week, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) confirmed nine new cases of West Nile virus, of which five were neuroinvasive disease cases, bringing this year's total to 61 reported infections. Louisiana continues to have the nation's second highest number of West Nile virus neuroinvasive disease cases.

  Health Officials Confirm 10 New West Nile Virus Cases this Week; 52 Total Cases this Year

  With the increasing numbers of West Nile virus cases in the state, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) is urging residents to be vigilant and protect themselves from mosquitoes. This week, DHH confirmed 10 new cases of West Nile virus, of which seven were neuroinvasive disease cases, bringing this year's total to 52 reported infections. Prior to these new cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's August 19, 2014 weekly West Nile Virus report, Louisiana had the second highest number of West Nile virus neuroinvasive disease cases.

  This week, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) confirmed 13 new cases of West Nile virus, of which five were neuroinvasive disease infections, bringing this year’s total to 42 reported cases.

Before heading out, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) wants to warn travelers, beachgoers and fishermen about two diseases, Vibrio vulnificus and the chikungunya virus.

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) is confirming the state's second West Nile virus death, an individual older than 75. The state's latest surveillance report also includes 14 new West Nile virus cases, bringing this year's total number of cases to 29.

  DHH Confirms Six New West Nile Virus Cases

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) is confirming six new West Nile virus cases this week, bringing this year's total number of cases to 15. This week's new infections include three cases of neuroinvasive disease in Caddo Parish, two cases of West Nile fever, with one each in Caddo and Livingston parishes, and an asymptomatic case in East Baton Rouge Parish.   DHH Reports State’s First West Nile Virus Death

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) is reporting the state’s first West Nile virus death of 2014. The death occurred in Caddo Parish. This week, DHH is confirming six new cases of West Nile virus, including the one death, bringing this year's total number of cases to nine. This week's new infections include four cases of neuroinvasive disease, with two cases in Caddo Parish, one case in East Baton Rouge Parish and one case in St. Tammany Parish. The state has one new case of West Nile fever in Caddo and one new asymptomatic case in Livingston Parish. In addition to these new cases, a previously reported asymptomatic case in Livingston Parish has been upgraded to West Nile fever.

  DHH Reports 2014’s First Human Cases of West Nile Virus

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has reported the state's first human cases of West Nile virus of 2014. The three cases were recently confirmed in Livingston Parish and were all asymptomatic, meaning these individuals did not know they were infected, and only found out while donating blood or having blood work.
